Annual Gala

Since 1971, the members of the Forum have been organizing and hosting San Antonio's premier spring formal fundraiser in support of the Texas Biomedical Research Institute.

The changing themes of each annual gala, held on a Saturday in late April or early May at The Argyle, attract approximately 500 attendees who enjoy mingling during cocktails and pre-dinner entertainment. The dazzling evening typically includes valuable favors for each couple, live musical entertainment, dancing and, of course, exquisite Argyle cuisine.

Each year there are unique and fabulous raffle prizes for which tickets are sold both in advance and at the event, and winners are announced after dinner. In 2010, one raffle prize included a spectacular trip to Napa Valley for four and provided guests with round-trip airline tickets, hotel accommodations, a tour and dinner at a privately owned vineyard and winery, dinners at local restaurants, a case of fine wine and much more.

With each passing year, the Gala organizers' efforts and creativity exceed the expectations of the guests, making it the city's most anticipated spring event. In the summer, the Forum presents the substantial event proceeds to Texas Biomed.

Through the years, more than $2.8 million dollars has been donated by the Forum to fund pilot studies at Texas Biomed. In just the last ten years, scientists who have received seed monies from the Forum have been able to apply for federal grants and to other granting organizations that have resulted in more than $8 million dollars for Texas Biomed. Scientists have now been awarded over $25 million dollars in competitive federal grants as a result of the Forum's $1.3 million in seed money (a more than 19-fold return). Clearly, the impact of the Forum's fundraising efforts through the Gala is a valuable component in furthering Texas Biomed's life-saving research.
