Overview
D. Chronic Diseases
The SNPRC serves as a national resource for research on a wide range of chronic diseases. A robust portfolio of research on complex diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, bone-related disorders, and drug abuse is facilitated by the Chronic Diseases focus group. Research in this area involves both NIH-funded investigators and commercial companies from across the country. For each project on chronic disease, the SNPRC provides nonhuman primate resources and specialized expertise that are critical to the success of the research. In many cases, the resources that support research on chronic diseases at the SNPRC are unique in the world. Efforts are on going to continue to develop and implement cutting edge technologies in phenotypic assessment and experimental manipulation of both environmental and physiological parameters.
