Research Focus
Michael Olivier, Ph.D., is the Director of the Center for Precision Medicine and Professor of Internal Medicine, Section on Molecular Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor at Texas Biomed. Dr. Olivier specializes in using genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics tools to study the molecular basis of human diseases. He explores the genetic contributions to obesity and related co-morbidities, such as cardiovascular disease, and collaborates on studies with nonhuman primate models of obesity.
Dr. Olivier and Texas Biomed Professor Shelley Cole co-direct the TOPS Nutrition and Obesity Research Center. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Inc.) is a large, non-profit weight loss support organization that also supports obesity research. As part of the research center, the team established the TOPS GENOME Registry, a data and sample repository to help understand genetic and lifestyle factors involved in obesity and the ability to loose weight successfully.
